Wilma Mae Bowman, 77, of Pleasantville, Iowa, died Thursday, April 9, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines, Iowa of heart disease. Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Fairview Christian Church, six miles south of Pleasantville on S-45. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Wilma was born March 30, 1938, in Dexter, Dallas County, Iowa, the daughter of Walter A. Benz and Fena R. Warner Benz. Wilma attended and graduated from school at Dexter. She married Donald J. Bowman on February 1, 1961. She and Donald had four children: Dawn Michelle Bowman, Sherry Lynn (Bowman) Cummings, Marsha Gay (Bowman) McCord and Mark John Bowman. They farmed south of Pleasantville for many years.
Wilma worked for Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Des Moines for 27 years. She also worked for Bell Telephone and insurance companies in Des Moines. She also had her own ceramic shop in Pleasantville, where she taught ceramics classes in the 1960’s and 70’s.
Wilma loved her husband, children and grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with each of them. Family gatherings for holidays and birthdays were especially important to her. Wilma was a member of the Red Hat Rosies of Pleasantville, and a frequent attendee of the gathering of women for coffee at Smokey Row. She also met several friends for coffee and lunch in Indianola. Wilma also enjoyed visiting with her sister, Julia Holst, and her husband, Bernie.
Wilma is survived by her children: Dawn Michelle Bowman, Sherry Lynn (Bowman) Cummings and son-in-law, Don Cummings, Marsha Gay (Bowman) McCord and Mark John Bowman; her sister, Julia and husband, Bernie; six grandchildren: Carly Cummings, Connor Cummings and wife, Haley Cummings, Nathaniel McCord, Zachary McCord, Natalie McCord, Kelsey McCord and their father, Brian McCord and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
