William Roy Johnson was born February 8, 1950 in Oskaloosa, Iowa the son of Roy and Maxine (Bickel) Johnson.
Bill was raised in the Marion County, Iowa area and graduated from SE Warren High School in 1968. He worked at a packing house before joining the Marine Corps. Bill served 2 ½ years in Vietnam before his honorable discharge. After returning to Iowa, Bill attended Tool & Die School in Des Moines. On June 1, 1976 Bill was united in marriage to Margery Kay Van Zee, in Omaha, Nebraska. To this union their children Jyl and Cale were born. The couple lived in Des Moines and Armstrong before moving to Sioux Rapids. Bill worked at Ranco in Sioux Rapids for 24 years. Margery passed away in 2008. In 2010 Bill moved to Knoxville and worked for Deco Tools in Des Moines.
Bill purchased an acreage near Knoxville and thoroughly enjoyed working on the property. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing. Spending time with family and friends was also a great pleasure for Bill.
Bill passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the V.A. Hospital, in Des Moines, at the age of 66 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Margery.
Those left to cherish Bill’s memory include his children, Jyl (Chad) DeJong of Knoxville and Cale (Cristy) Johnson of Sioux Rapids; significant other, Pam Knight; 7 grandchildren: Lillian and Malia Johnson and Luka, Kolton, Brody, Gavin and Adeline DeJong; brother, Earl (Carol) Johnson of Marion, Iowa and many other family members and friends.

A memorial service for Bill Johnson, age 66 of Knoxville, will be held on Friday, October 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Burial of cremains will be in Liberty Center, Iowa at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project. Online condolences may be left at BertrandFuneralHomes.com.
