William Paul Barnett, age 50, died, Knoxville, Iowa, October 29, 2024 his mom and Harry by his side.

William Paul Barnett was born on July 29, 1974, to Thomas Paul Barnett, Jr. and Alonna Marie Bailey Barnett in Oskaloosa, Iowa. William was welcomed home by a sister, Tamara Marie Harrington.

William attended Knoxville Schools, graduating from Knoxville High School in 1993. In Junior and High School, he participated in FHA, Football, Wrestling, Mock Trial and Golf. He kept records for Curt Froyen for the Knoxville Volleyball team. He was in National Honor Society, and attended Boys State at Camp Dodge, Iowa. William graduated at mid-term his senior year and became a page in the Iowa senate in Des Moines, Iowa. William left Knoxville in the fall of 1993 to attend the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota. He graduated in 1997 with a BS Degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting and minor in criminal justice.

William and his friends so enjoyed going to the Bailey Farm where his grandmother cooked for them.

He lived in South Dakota, Nebraska, Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi before moving back to Iowa in 2014. William was a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan.

In 2018 he became campaign manager for Jon Thorup, an American politician and law enforcement officer. Jon was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives 28th district in November 2018.

William was preceded in death by his dad, Thomas Paul Barnett Jr.; grandparents: Paul and Edna Barnett and Tom and Arlene Bailey; cousins: Tracy Van Ryswyk and Kenny Lindaman; aunt, Twinalyn and uncle, Phil Clark and uncles, Lewis Borchert and Scott Brockmann.

He is survived by his mother, Alonna Gass and her husband Harry; sister Tamara (Jeff) Jenkins; step sisters: Laurie Goff and Patricia (James) Russell; nephews: Matthew Geil (Ciara) and their children Jasper and Hazel, and Alec Geil and step nephews: Jacob and Kyle Russell, Clinton and Conner Goff.


The family thanks you for gathering with them to pray for William and to honor his memory.

Everyone is invited to join the family in the fellowship hall for a luncheon following the committal service.
