Wanda Williams was born September 9, 1925 in Pleasantville, Iowa the daughter of Ernest and Gladys (Conley) Viers.
She attended Bunker Hill Country School and graduated two years early from Pleasantville High School as Salutatorian of her class. On October 17, 1942 Wanda was united in marriage to Gene Williams. The couple made their home and farmed in the Pleasantville area. Wanda and Gene were blessed with two children; Janet and Steven. After the children were in school, Wanda entered the workforce. She worked for an insurance company and an Air Force recruitment center before taking a job at the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center. She was a personnel clerk at the V.A. for 20 years, after which Wanda worked for the I.R.S. until her retirement in the late 1970’s.
Wanda was a founding member of the Pleasantville Church of Christ, as well as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, sewing and crafts. During her retirement, Wanda bought an organ and took lessons to play. Wanda was also a longtime member of the Rose City Panhandlers Kitchen Band, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Her greatest joys in life were her family and her faith, both of which she very much cherished.
Wanda passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Mercy Hospice, in Johnston, at the age of 94 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Gene.
Those left to cherish Wanda’s memory include her children; Janet Peffers of West Des Moines and Steven (Barbara) Williams of Indianola; grandchildren: Donnie (Shelly) Peffers of Pleasantville and Jamee (Brock) Goslar of Memphis, Tennessee; great-grandchildren: Kris (Nicole) Peffers of Swan, Tyler (Emma) Peffers of Pleasantville and Connor and Claire Goslar of Memphis, Tennessee; great-great grandchildren: Ellie, Ava and Oliver Peffers; siblings: Velda Dunn of Coon Rapids, Minnesota and Jack Viers of Swan and many other family members and friends.



A Funeral service for Wanda Williams, age 94 of Pleasantville, will be held Monday, March 2, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Mason Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Pleasantville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Mason Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the West Des Moines Fire & Rescue or to the Webb Shadle Memorial Library.
