Gertrude “Virnie” Virndene Goering was born February 27, 1930, in New Madrid, Missouri. She was the daughter of Coy and Jessie (Glover) Patterson.
She was raised in St Mary’s Iowa, on her parent’s farm. On March 19, 1951 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Darrell Eugene Goering, Sr. The couple lived in Ackworth and Sandyville before moving to their farm near Lacona, where they remained their entire married life. Virnie worked at Maytag for ten years, but she spent most of her life working side by side with her husband on their farm. Following Darrell’s death, Virnie moved to Pleasantville. She lovingly operated a daycare in Pleasantville for several years and the children became part of her heart and part of her family.
She will be remembered as an amazing cook – her specialties were fried chicken, chicken and noodles and homemade rolls. Most importantly, Virnie was a loving and devoted farm wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She also had faith as the center of her life and raised her children in a Godly home.
Virnie passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines, at the age of 84 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Eugene, her parents, two great grandchildren, Jaiden and Crystal, one brother, six sisters and one daughter-in-law, Deloris Goering.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Sondra Jean (David) Seuferer, and Lori (Dave) Dustin all of Pleasantville, Darrell Eugene Goering Jr. of Milo, Douglas Edward (Melissa) Goering of Maxwell; 11 grandchildren, Dana (Derrick) Brent, Monica (Jesse) Mesecher, Joshua (Chelsea) Kitsis, Sarah (Alex) Chambers, Kelsey Dustin, Darrell (Sarah) Goering III, Lacey, Savannah, Leah, Koleton, and Kara Goering; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Helen (Walt) Jackson of Truex, and one brother, Coy (Irene) Patterson, Jr. of Osceola, and many other family members and friends.
