Verma Maxine Jones was born December 17, 1926 in Ottumwa, Iowa the daughter of Roy and Lula (Urich) Brown.
She graduated from Ottumwa High School and then attended cosmetology school. Verma then worked as a beautician in Ottumwa. On April 20, 1948 Verma was united in marriage to Vern “Slim” Jones in Unionville, Missouri. The couple made Bloomfield their home until moving to Knoxville in 1965. Verma operated a beauty shop in Knoxville until retiring at the age of 86.
Verma loved the holidays and enjoyed decorating for every occasion. She also liked to bowl in her younger years.
Verma passed away Monday, May 31, 2021 at West Ridge Nursing & Rehab, in Knoxville, at the age of 94 years.
In addition to her parents, Verma was preceded in death by her husband, Slim; and siblings: Dorothy Kranz, Elvina Ault, Rosemary Shadly, Irene Brown and Sylvia Dudley.
Those left to cherish Verma’s memory include her daughter, Abbie Clark of Newton; son, Robert (Cindy) Jones of Altoona; four grandchildren: Sherry Clark St. Clair, Scott Clark, Weston Jones and Cheyenne Jones; one great-granddaughter, Olivia and many other family members and friends.
A Graveside Memorial Service for Verma Jones, age 94 of Knoxville, will be held Friday, June 4, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at The I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Association.
