OBITUARY FOR VERBAL SINCLAIR DYER
OCTOBER 22, 1913 to SEPTEMBER 2, 2017

Verbal Lavirda Sinclair Dyer, daughter of Charles Edward and Irma May Dougall Sinclair, was born October 22, 1913 in Albia, Iowa. Verbal was the second child born of the ten children of Charles and Irma Sinclair. She attended school in Albia and Pleasantville, Iowa, graduating from Pleasantville High School in 1931. She was married to P.A. Dyer on August 13 l937. They were blest with two children, Richard and Mary Jo. Verbal Dyer was a member of the United
Methodist Church, a 50 plus member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Past Worthy Matron. The Dyers raised their children in Des Moines and Dubuque Iowa, and Mt. Prospect, Illinois. For fifteen years Verbal was the secretary to the Principal of Prospect High School. In 1981 the couple retired and moved back to Pleasantville, Iowa their hometown. There they reunited with old friends and family. They lived in the house that was built by P.A.’s grandfather, Peter Allen Dyer, until P.A.’s passing in 1998. Verbal moved to Indianola, Iowa then to New Hampshire to be near her daughter and family.

Verbal was preceded in death by her husband, P.A., her father and mother, five brothers, Ralph, Adrain, Johnny, Ronald and Max and two sisters, Ruth Mary Dyer of Palmdale, California and Ruby Koopman of Pella, Iowa. She will be remembered and loved by those left behind, her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Stephen Butler of Amherst, New Hampshire, her grandsons, Aaron and wife Kim Butler of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Michael Butler of Nashville, Tennessee, her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Colleen Dyer, of Sparks, Nevada, granddaughter Cindy and husband, Quentin Hoff, great grandson, Devin, and sisters, Lois Steen of North Liberty, Iowa and Gerrie Anderson Kirkland, Washington, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Verbal passed away peacefully with her daughter and son-in-law at her bedside on September 2, 2017.

Services will be held at Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville, Iowa, on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with internment in Pleasantville Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the burial at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be made to H.C.I. Care Services or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
