Thomas Clinton Irving was born November 28, 1928 in Dallas Township of Marion County, Iowa the son of Varel F. Irving and Velta Mae (Crandall) Irving.
Tom was raised primarily in Dallas Township and as a young man he worked for the creamery in Knoxville and later worked for Maytag. In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Army and following his honorable discharge in 1956 he worked for Colonial Bread. Tom then lived in Washington State for a few years. He returned to Iowa and attended C.N.A. training and went to work at the Knoxville V.A. On July 17, 1963 Tom was united in marriage to Ethel M. Wiren. The couple made their home in Columbia. Tom retired from the V.A. after 30 years of service.
In his spare time, Tom enjoyed fishing, mushrooming, gardening and canning the harvest from the garden. He was a very sociable person and loved to visit with everyone.
Tom passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at West Ridge Nursing & Rehab, in Knoxville, at the age of 86 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and siblings: Miles, Bob, Melvin, Bill and Anna Mae Sweeney.
Those left to cherish his memory include three brothers: John of Columbia, Iowa; Jim of Ft. Dodge, Iowa and Jerry (Julie) Irving of Pleasantville and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Military Honors provided by the American Legion Baty-Tucker Post No. 168, the V.F.W. John Myers Post #3519 and the United States Army.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Irving family.

The family invites relatives and friends to the Columbia Community Center for refreshments following the committal service.
