Teddy Ray Myers was born August 7, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Lester and Ida May (Hull) Myers.
At the age of 7, Ted’s family moved to a farm in the Swan community. He attended elementary school in Swan and graduated from Pleasantville High School with the Class of 1961. He attended William Penn College and played football that fall. He decided he liked football more than college, so he left to pursue a job at the John Deere works in Ankeny. On August 10, 1963 he was united in marriage to Sue Carlson at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Pleasantville. The couple always made their home in Pleasantville, and through the years Ted worked his way up the John Deere ladder and retired from the experimental division with many patents in his name. He enjoyed his job at John Deere, and traveled all over the world. His true career, however, began at age 49, when he started coaching for the Pleasantville School District. Ted coached football, girl’s basketball and golf. He also umpired baseball and softball. Coaching was a true passion for Ted, and he was able to teach and positively influence hundreds of kids through the years. His greatest accomplishment was his family, and he dearly cherished his wife, daughters and grandchildren.
He was a member of the Pleasant Masonic Lodge and the Pleasantville Country Club, which was better known as “Ted’s Office”.
Ted passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, at the age of 70 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sue; his children and their families: Dana (Rich) Thomas, their children, Chelsea and Collin and Shannon (Brian) Harken, their children, Madison, Maclain and Mitchell all of Pleasantville and his siblings, Joan Parker of Carlisle and Tom Myers of Broken Arrow, OK, nieces and nephews and countless friends.
