Sylvia Ann (Siberski) Cole was born on August 20, 1927 in Nanticoke, PA, the daughter of Michael J. and Anna T. (Pohepic) Siberski. She graduated from Nursing School at Philadelphia General Hospital in 1945. She met the love of her life, Edward (Ted) J. Cole during her time at nursing school when he was hired to photograph her and her class. They were married Nov. 27, 1947. After making a home in Secane, PA and adding 3 daughters, they moved to Knoxville Iowa in 1960. Sylvia worked as an RN at the Veterans’ Hospital while Ted started up his photography studio.

Sylvia was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and many bridge clubs. She was a former member of Mentor Study Club, St. Anthony’s Guitar Choir and the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. Most of all she loved her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sylvia passed away July 29, 2019 at Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines at the age of 91. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward (Ted) J. Cole of 53 years and two brothers Michael J. Siberski and Thomas J. Siberski.

She is survived by her 3 daughters, Candy (Greg) Jerkins of Knoxville, Cindi (Mark) Hayes of Mt. Pleasant, Lynn (Ray) Witzenburg of Des Moines, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; 3 step great-grandchildren; 2 step great-great grandchildren and 2 sisters-in-law.



A Mass of Christian Burial for Sylvia Cole, age 91 of Knoxville, will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at St. Anthony Church in Knoxville at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Homestead Assisted Living in Knoxville, Every Step Hospice/Kavanagh House in Des Moines or the Knoxville Public Library.
