Steven "Steak" Mccurry

Steven Wayne “Steak” McCurry was born February 17, 1954 in Grinnell, Iowa the son of Gerald and Amanda Vivian (Bowie) McCurry.
He was raised in Grinnell where he graduated from high school with the Class of 1972. During school Steak was a standout athlete in baseball, basketball, track, shotput and football. He attended Ellsworth Community College where he started on the football team. Steak then went to work for his uncle at Bowie Oil Company in Des Moines. He later moved back to Grinnell and worked at Farmhand and then for another uncle at Pioneer Oil. Steak eventually went to work for Manatts as a driver where he retired in 2015 with over 30 years of service.
Steak had a variety of interests; he loved to cook for family and friends and he enjoyed camping. He was very mechanical and was always available to lend a hand to friends and family. His true passion in life was sprint car racing and he was a die-hard Lasoski fan. He made hundreds of friends at the Knoxville Raceway and Campground through the years. His true love in life was his fiancé and partner of over 23 years, Debbie Parker.
Steak passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017 at his home at the age of 63 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Those left to cherish Steak’s memory include his fiancé, Debbie Parker of Knoxville; father, Gerald “Jerry” McCurry of Knoxville; siblings: Mike of Cedar Rapids, Kim (Bruce) Rietveld of Knoxville and Randy of Grinnell and his nieces, nephews and many friends.



Funeral Services for Steven “Steak” McCurry, age 63 of Knoxville, will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Riverside Community Church. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. Friday at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed to the KRCO (Knoxville Racing Charitable Organization).
