Steven Lee DeMoss was born January 4, 1962 in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Floyd Newton DeMoss and Karen Sue (Hevlin) DeMoss.
He was raised in the Monroe and Knoxville area and attended school in both towns. Steve lived in the Knoxville area for all of his adult life. On September 7, 1997 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Thomas. Steve drove a semi for most of his life, accumulating over 3 million miles; 1 million of those miles at his last job at Geetings, Inc., where he took extreme pride in his fuel mileage and keeping his semi spotless, inside and out. He took his job very seriously and expected those around him to do the same. He retired from his working years February 2, 2021 and received a terminal cancer diagnosis not long thereafter. Steve’s bark was often worse than his bite, yet under that tough exterior, there was a sweet, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Steve passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021 at his home in Knoxville, surrounded by family, at the age of 59 years.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shelby; his father and grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Liz; children: Dalton (Kassadi) DeMoss; Jessica (Jonathan) Pickering; and Janna DeMoss; grandchildren: Dallas, Damian, Taylor and Grayson DeMoss, and Jayden and Jaxson Pickering; sisters JoAnna (Brett) Loukota, and Denise (Jeff) Hopkin; and many other family members and friends.
Per Steve’s request, there will be no service. Private burial services will be later at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to go towards a scholarship in Steve’s name, to be determined at a later date.
