Shirley Ann Felton was born December 11, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Vernon and Adeline (Zamzow) Wood.
She was raised in Des Moines, and as a young woman she worked as a nurse’s aid at Iowa Methodist Hospital. She later took a job at the John Deere plant, in Ankeny, as a security guard. Shirley worked for John Deere until her retirement. On July 23, 1989 she was united in marriage to Foster “Bud” Felton in Des Moines, and ten years ago the couple moved to Knoxville.
In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed quilting, sewing and cooking. She was a league bowler for many years, and still loved to bowl on the xbox. Shirley’s other source of joy was her family, especially her grandchildren.
Shirley passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital emergency room at the age of 76 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Steve Wood.
She is survived by her husband, Foster “Bud” of Knoxville; children: Jim Hale (Sue) of Des Moines, Jack Hale (Lisa) of Davenport, Julie Hale (Dan Storck) of Des Moines and Joe Hale (Shelly) of Oskaloosa; step-children: Micheel Scott and Michael Felton both of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings: Greg Wood of Victoria, Mexico, Mark Wood of San Antonia, Texas, David Wood of Dallas, Texas, Angela Wood of Dallas, Texas and Chris Reed of Green Springs, Florida and many other family members and friends.
A memorial service for Shirley A. Felton age 76, of Knoxville, will be held on Thursday, January 16 at the Living Word Fellowship Church at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the church.
