Sara Mae Mecham Profile Photo
Sara Mae Mecham was born March 30, 1926 in Marion County to George and Mary (Bingham) Derringer.
She was raised on a farm north of Knoxville. Her future husband, Elmo was a WWII sailor from Utah. On January 22, 1945 Sara was united in marriage to Elmo Mecham, in California. To this union four sons were born. The couple eventually settled on a farm between Knoxville and Melcher-Dallas. Sara worked in the dietetics department at the Knoxville V.A. Hospital and was the consummate farm wife – milking cows and working with Elmo on the farm. Following the couple’s retirement, they moved to a home west of Knoxville, near the Donnelly Four Corners.
Through the years, several family trips were made to Utah to visit Elmo’s family and the couple always enjoyed camping with Elmo’s brother, Gayle. Sara was always proud of and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Sara passed away Monday November 24, 2014 at the Pleasant Care Living Center, in Pleasantville, at the age of 88 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo, her parents, a grandson, Jeffrey Gordon Mecham; her siblings, Beulah, June, and Dale and her in-laws Bud and Jackie Mecham.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Jerry Lee (Ann) Mecham of Kingston, Washington; Gordon (Nancy) Mecham of Pleasantville; Bruce (Marla) Mecham of Winterset, Iowa and Rand (Chris) Mecham of Knoxville; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; in-laws: Velma (Reed) Ford of Walsburg, Utah and Violet (Vernon) Jaques of Laverkin, Utah and many other family members and friends.
