Ruth Colleen Jones was born July 5, 1927 in Pleasantville, Iowa the son of Lloyd and Minnie (Prickett) Gardner.
She graduated from Pleasantville High School with the Class of 1945. Following graduation, Ruth worked for Woltz Portrait Studios. On December 25, 1951 she was united in marriage to Frank Jones in New York City. The couple lived in Torrance, California for a number of years, moving to Des Moines in 1973. Ruth and Frank moved to Pleasantville in 1984. Ruth worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone as a secretary until her retirement in 1985.
Ruth was a member of the Pleasantville Christian Church and the Telephone Pioneers of America. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, and collecting dolls and antiques. She also enjoyed gardening and was an avid fan of Iowa Basketball. Ruth had a great love for pets, she always tried to find a home for lost animals and sometimes kept the strays she found. She has had a pet box turtle for over 50 years.
Ruth passed away Friday, March 2, 2018 at her home at the age of 90 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Frank Edward in 1992.
Those left to cherish Ruth’s memory include her son, Roger; granddaughters: Sarah and Victoria; 13 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
