Rosemary Applegate was born November 2, 1929 in Glenwood, Missouri the daughter of Virgil Oren Shobe and Lena Hazel (Ryals) Shobe.
She was raised in Missouri and at the age of 17, Rosemary moved to Harvey. She attended beauty school in Des Moines, and was a hairdresser for many years. On June 4, 1962 she was united in marriage to Kerns P. Applegate, Jr. in Des Moines. The couple resided in Des Moines until retirement when they moved to Wesley, Arkansas. Kerns passed away in 1984 and shortly thereafter Rosemary moved to Newton, Iowa. Six years ago she moved to Ottumwa, Iowa to be near her son, Tim.
In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting and sewing. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Newton. Through the years, Rosemary found great companionship in her dogs: Buttons, Little Bit, Yoshi and Peanut. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whether it was putting together puzzles or making their favorite apple salad.
Rosemary passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the Ridgewood Nursing & Rehab Center at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 22 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kerns; brother, Larry Shobe and her sister, Martha Dursky.
Those left to mourn her passing include her son, Timothy (Dee) Minella of Ottumwa; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Oren Shobe of Bussey; Geraldine “Jerri” (Maurice) Phillips of Newton; sister, Inez Carter of Des Moines and many other family members and friends.
