Ronald John Hays

Ronald John Hays was born February 4, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois.
Following high school, Ron enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served for 10 years including 1 year of Foreign Service. He was honorably discharged and returned home to the Chicago area. Ron eventually moved to California and joined the Merchant Marines. He was a Chief Engineer for the Neptune Society based in Wilmington, California until his retirement. He spent many of his retirement years in Knoxville, Iowa where he served as the Chaplain for the American Legion Baty-Tucker Post No. 168. He honored countless veterans by conducting their military honors and even officiating at some of their funerals. Ron was awarded the Iowa Governor’s Volunteer Award on June 21, 2016 for his work with the American Legion and local veterans.
Ron passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Accura of Pleasantville, Iowa at the age of 85 years.
