Roger Dale Gilchrist
January 26, 1947 — December 22, 2023
Roger Dale Gilchrist was born January 26, 1947 in Carlisle, Iowa the son of James D. and Winifred Manila (Crook) Koons.
At a young age, Roger’s father died and his mother later married Orie Gilchrist, who adopted Roger. After high school, Roger enlisted in the Army National Guard. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Delores Ann “Annie” Gilchrist and to this union six children were born: Roger, Naomi, Troy, Robin, Aaron and Susan. Following Annie’s death Roger was married to Brenda Busick Goff on October 14, 2007. Roger was an assembler at Maytag prior to retirement.
Roger had an infectious laugh and loved to have fun. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He also loved his cats. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and rarely missed a game.
Roger passed away Friday, December 22, 2023 at the Knoxville Hospital & Clinics at the age of 76 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; adopted father, Orie Gilchrist; wife, Annie Gilchrist; siblings: Jerry Koons, Sharon, Janice, Harla, Ike, Marilyn, Dixie Koons and Diana Gilchrist; step-son, Arlo Goff and grandchild, Tiana Marie Overton.
Those left to cherish Roger’s memory include his wife, Brenda; children: Roger Noel (Missy) Gilchrist, Naomi (Randy) Teeny, Troy (Michelle) Gilchrist, Robin Bly, Aaron Gilchrist and Susan Gilchrist; step-children: Bryan Goff, Seth Goff and Brenda Vancenbrock; step-grandchildren: Brantly Paul Goff, Arlo Duane Goff, Waylon Gator Goff, Ivy May Vancenbrock and Marie Rae Goff; brothers: Danny (Shawna) Gilchrist and Hal Dean (Connie) Gilchrist and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Columbia Fire & Rescue Unit.
