Robert Junior Hanawalt, Sr. was born December 31, 1944 in Prairie City, Iowa the son of George and Neva (Myers) Hanawalt.
He was raised in the Prairie City, Mitchellville and Colfax areas. As a young man Bob worked for Rolscreen in Pella. On February 14, 1971 Bob was united in marriage to Shirley Shilling. To this union two sons were born: Robert and Roger. After working at Rolscreen for a few years, Bob took a position in the housekeeping department at Knoxville Area Community Hospital. He later transferred to the laundry department at the hospital and retired from there in 2010.
In his spare time, Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and NASCAR. He also liked attending softball games. His greatest joy was spending time with family, especially his grandkids.
Bob passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 25 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to cherish Bob’s memory include his wife, Shirley; sons: Robert, Jr. “Bobby” and Roger (Darlene) and his grandchildren: Austin, Dalton and Christina all of Knoxville; his sisters: Betty Christy of Monroe and Norma Seim of Newton and many other family members and friends.
