Richard Darrell Mesecher was born February 28, 1943 in Swan, Iowa the son of William E. and Hazel (King) Mesecher.
Dick graduated from Pleasantville High School with the Class of 1961. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965. Following his honorable discharge, Dick returned home and took a job with Bell Telephone in Des Moines, Iowa. On January 7, 1967 he was united in marriage to Cecelia Hansen. He worked for the phone company for 30 years before retiring from what was then Qwest. Dick also owned and operated Mesecher Sanitation in Pleasantville since the 1980’s before selling the business in 2016.
In his spare time, Dick enjoyed sprint car racing and had worked with Slim Gutknecht and Earl Wagner. He also helped set the fireworks for Pleasantville’s annual 4th of July celebration. He and Cecelia also decorated the outside of their home on State Street for all many holidays, which the local residents thoroughly enjoyed. Dick was also an active member of the Pleasantville American Legion Post No. 108.
Dick passed away Friday, April 22, 2022, at his home and surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 79 years.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his siblings: Billy Dale Mesecher and Barbara Janette Raney.
Those left to honor Dick’s memory include his wife, Cecelia; children: Merri Lea (Tim) DeWit, Ronda Dee (Scott) Wicks and Donnie Dean Mesecher; grandchildren: James and Ryan DeWit, Kirk, Jacob and Ben Wicks and Kyla and Kelton Mesecher; sister, Linda Clark and many other family members and friends.



A graveside service for Dick Mesecher, age 79 of Pleasantville, will be held at Pleasantville Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Pleasantville American Legion Post No. 108 and the United States Navy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pleasantville American Legion Post No. 108 or to the Football and Football Cheer Programs at Pleasantville Community Schools.

There will be a social time at Memorial Hall following the committal service.
