Richard Cecil Havier was born September 11, 1921 in Lakefield, Minnesota the son of George and Clara (Schumacher) Havier.
Dick was raised in Lakefield and following graduation he entered the University of Minnesota. Shortly thereafter he was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. After basic training he was sent to La Harve, France. He fought in many battles including the Battle of the Bulge and helped capture the Eagle’s Nest. Dick also served under Gen. George Patton during much of this time. Following the war, Dick attended watch maker school. On March 22, 1949 he was united in marriage to Alice Virginia Eder at the Methodist Church in Lakefield, Minnesota. The couple moved to Flandreau, South Dakota later that year. Dick owned and operated a jewelry store and gift shop. He later went to work as a bank time lock inspector and service representative for Eaton, Yale, Towne and Diebold. The couple were blessed with the arrival of their son, Mark in 1960. In 1964 they moved to Knoxville, Iowa. In his retirement years, Dick continued to work for bank across central Iowa, fixing locks and opening safe deposit boxes.
Dick passed away Friday, October 23, 2020 at the Comfort House, in Pella, at the age of 99 years.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife Alice in 2008 and siblings: Dolores Cholick, Michael Donaldson and Gerald in infancy.
Those left to honor Dick’s memory include his son, Mark of Knoxville and many nieces and nephews.




A Celebration of Life for Richard Havier, age 99 of Knoxville, will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial, with military honors, will follow at the Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Pella.
