Richard Lester Graves
April 19, 1947 — July 9, 2024
Richard Lester Graves was born April 19, 1947 in Pleasantville, Iowa the son of Dean and Rose (Olivier) Graves.
Richard graduated with the Pleasantville High School Class of 1965. He then attended Iowa State University, earning a Bachelor’s of Science degree. Richard worked for various industrial businesses until taking a job with Lockheed Martin in Texas in 1972. He was an aerospace contract manager until his retirement in 2011. On August 13, 2010 Richard was united in marriage to Janie Davis. Following Richard’s retirement, the couple moved back to Iowa and settled in Melcher-Dallas.
Richard played guitar and banjo and was a member of a trio, who had won the Bill Riley Talent Show. He also enjoyed sailing for many years.
Richard passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at his home, in Melcher-Dallas, Iowa, at the age of 77 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ronald.
Those left to honor Richard’s memory include his wife, Janie; daughter, Andrea and husband Nick Neeley and their children, Adelaide and Landon and many other family members and friends.
Richard has been cremated and no services are planned. Memorials may be made to the Animal Rescue League.
