Raymond L. Tomsheck was born March 14, 1922 in Harvey, Illinois the son of William and Martha (Stogentein) Tomsheck.
Ray graduated from Thornton Township High School in Illinois. He was later inducted into the United States Army during WWII. He served the United States honorably in Italy. On December 28, 1946 he was united in marriage to Louise Marie Baumgartner. The couple first lived in Harvey, Illinois. From there they moved to Clermont, Iowa where Ray operated a general store before moving to Charles City, Iowa where he was a general manager for SuperValu. In 1970 they moved to Knoxville, Iowa where Ray owned Bob & Ray’s SuperValu until his retirement in 1992.
Ray was active in the Knoxville community and enjoyed golfing at Pine Knolls Country Club. Family was important to Ray; he and Louise took many summer vacations with Marsha and Ben. They also enjoyed wintering in Arizona for many years.
Ray passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024 at the Knoxville Hospital & Clinics at the age of 102 years.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Louise and siblings: William, Clarence, Elnora, Esther, Lucille, Martha and Gertrude.
Those left to honor Ray’s memory include his children: Marsha Moore of Scottsdale, Arizona; son, Ben Tomsheck of Lake Stevens, Washington; three grandchildren: Dustin Moore, Kate Moore Reed (Scott) and Shannon Tomsheck; great-grandson Forest Reed and many other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mayo Clinic or the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics for research purposes.
