A Celebration of Life for Randy Van Weelden age 62 will be held on Wednesday, June 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Marion county Humane Society. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; son, Christopher Hoeksema and girlfriend Amanda of Pella; step-children: Robert Callahan and girlfriend Sandra of Fort Dodge, April (Bryon) Wolfe of Knoxville, Michael Callahan of Reasoner and Katie (Steve) Visser of Knoxville; 10 grandchildren: Cora Hoeksema, Joanne, Alyssa, Emily, Samantha and Joshua Wolfe, Spencer and Justin Callahan and Mary and Max Visser; siblings: Trudy (Bruce) Van Wyk of Pella, Mike (Doris) of Pleasant Hill, Debbie (Don) Verros of Harvey, Ricky of Pella and Kim (Steve) Roose of Pella; brothers-in-law: Gary (Sue) Muilenberg of Eagan, MN and John Muilenberg of Knoxville and many nieces and nephews.

Randy Van Weelden was born June 21, 1953 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was raised in Pella, graduating with the Class of 1972. Following graduation, Randy served in the United States Army from 1972 – 1975. He was stationed in Germany, near the Russian border. After his honorable discharge, Randy returned to Pella and was employed in the landscaping business for many years. He later moved to Des Moines where he was an advocate for the homeless. In 2004 he moved to Knoxville. On April 16, 2005 Randy was united in marriage to Shirley Muilenberg. The couple have always made their home in Knoxville.
In his spare time, Randy enjoyed going to auctions and thrift stores, looking for a bargain or unusual items. He also spent a lot of time outside working on the landscape of he and Shirley’s home. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
Randy passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center at the age of 62 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Magdeline Rozenberg Van Weelden in 2010; in-laws, Henry and Gail Muilenberg and granddaughter, Halia Renae Dietz-Callahan.
