Randall Ray Cochran, 63, died September 30, 2021. No services will be held at this time, per Randy’s wishes. His family will honor his wishes privately at a later date.
Randy was born August 18, 1958 in Virginia, Minnesota. He was the son of Irel “Victor” and Viola (Martin) Cochran. He was the proud and loving father of Alex, Crystal, and Tiffany.
Randy retired from the City of Des Moines in 2010. He worked for many years making sure that the parks and pools were safe for the public to enjoy. Randy was, however, always a mechanic. In his twenties, he worked for Hartford Auto until he had the opportunity to buy the business in 1985. Randy was the proud owner of Cochran Auto Repair until he went to work for the city in 1998. Randy still continued to tinker and to fix his friends’ cars from his shop at home. In his final days, when crawling under cars wasn’t so easy, he found great joy in advising his son-in-law and his son-in-law’s friends as to how to get things running. Randy’s family and friends will remember him as a brilliantly inventive man who could fix the un-fixable and who could always find a way to get things done.
In addition to his love of cars, Randy enjoyed hunting; boating with his brother, Ron; riding his motorcycles; golfing and playing pool with his buddies from the Hartford Sportsman’s Club; going to demolition derbies with his son-in-law, Matt; and spending time making his children and grandchildren laugh.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Vic and Vi, and his sisters, Rhonda, Phyllis, and Vickie.
Those left to cherish Randy’s memory include his daughters Alex (Matt) Cochran, Crystal (Bill) Ryno, and Tiffany (Alan) Carlson; brother, Ron (Deb) Cochran; and seven grandchildren.
