Ralph E. Gullion was born July 31, 1936 on the family farm east of Columbia, Iowa the son of G. Curtis and Pearle (Hibbits) Gullion.
He was raised on the family farm and attended country school. Ralph served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961. Following his honorable discharge, Ralph returned home and took a job with Edwards & Agan Ford Garage. On November 17, 1961 Ralph was united in marriage to Carole Penick at Columbia, Iowa. The couple made their home in Knoxville. Ralph continued to work for the local Ford dealer until they closed. He then worked for the Knoxville School District until his retirement in 2011, although he still helped the school on a part time basis.
In his spare time Ralph still worked, whether he was painting houses, detailing cars or tending his vegetable garden. He also enjoyed yard work and puttering around in his workshop. He was a huge Cubs fan and he liked the Yankees.
Ralph passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 84 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles; brothers: Stanley, Howard, Glenn, Arthur “Pat” and sister, Marlene Maulsby.
Those left to cherish Ralph’s memory include his wife, Carole; daughters, Barbara (Todd) Six and Sandy (Frank) Luke all of Knoxville; grandchildren: Jeff (Amy) Gullion, Joelle (Chad) Zeien, Brittney Garcia, Benjamin Luke and Jonny Luke; great-grandchildren: Calyb and Charleigh Zeien and Michael Gullion; sisters: Louise Roush of Knoxville, Leta Kingrey of Columbia and Blanche (Jack) Kingrey of Knoxville; brother-in-law, James Maulsby of Macon, Missouri and many other family members and friends.
