Robert Dale Galvin was born on September 26, 1922, at Pleasantville, Iowa, the son of Charles and Ethel (Neal) Galvin. R.D. attended the Pleasantville schools and was a member of the first graduating class from the new Pleasantville High School. In December, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army and served during World War II and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in January, 1946. On November 26, 1958, he was united in marriage with Donna Faye (Clark) Wooldridge. R.D. and Donna Faye and her three children, Bobby, Becky and Rita Wooldridge, became a blended family. R. D. was first self-employed as a truck driver and then worked as a farmhand. For many years he did road construction for Gillotti and in later years was employed with Farm and Town and Smith Elevator in Pleasantville until his retirement at the age of 80 years in 2002. R.D.’s first priority was his grandchildren and then fishing, gardening, raising tomatoes, and in later years doing jig saw puzzles. On Wednesday, February 26, 2014, he passed away at the home of his daughter, Becky Michael, in Pleasantville at the age of 91 years.
Those who will cherish his memory are two daughters and their husbands: Becky and Bud Michael, Rita and Don Hayes all of Pleasantville; a daughter-in-law, Betty (Bob) Wooldridge of Newton, Iowa; five special grandchildren and their spouses and 11 great-grandchildren. They and their families are: James and Joni Michael and their four children: Ethan, Scott, Morgan and Kendra Michael; Stephanie (Hayes) and Randy Beier and their two children: Delaney and Agatha; Kim (Hayes) and Sri Laxmana and their three children: Keshen, Kian and Kyren; Michelle (Hayes) and Matt Smith and their two children: Roman and Jury; Rob and Ashten Hayes. Of his original family R.D. leaves one sister, Bonnie Sullivan of Knoxville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Faye; a son, Bob Wooldridge; his parents, Charles and Ethel Galvin; his three brothers: Ralph, Larry and Galen Galvin; and two sisters: Betty Gass and Ruthann Galvin. R.D. was a member of the American Legion Post No. 108 of Pleasantville and the Pleasantville Alumni Association.
