Howard Patrick Myers was born October 11, 1937 in Pleasantville, Iowa the son of Howard and Lorraine (Bogue) Myers.
Following graduation from Pleasantville High School, Pat attended the University of Iowa where he obtained his law degree. During his undergrad at the U of I, Pat was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and a member of the Iowa Hawkeye Marching Band where he played the alto sax and in 1957, played at the Rose Bowl when Iowa defeated Oregon State 35-19.
While attending the University of Iowa, Pat was set up on a blind date with Kay Lenz from Iowa City. The date went so well, that the two were united in marriage on August 8, 1959. The couple made Pleasantville their home and Pat joined his father’s law practice and insurance agency, Myers & Myers Attorneys at Law and Myers Insurance Agency. He continued to operate the law firm and insurance agency until his retirement.
Pat was very active in the Pleasantville community and high school athletics, having served on numerous boards and committees throughout the years. He was a former Marion County Attorney and Marion County Associate Judge. Pat was also a referee for high school basketball for 37 years and was inducted into the Iowa Girls Basketball Officials Hall of Fame in 2005. Pat was very active in the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Temple in Des Moines and held the role of Potentate in 1981. He was also President of the Iowa Shrine Bowl for many years. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan his entire life. Pat loved spending time at his home at the Lake of the Ozarks. He spent almost every morning sitting on the deck with a cup of coffee and his shih tzus while enjoying the lake view from his deck. Anyone who knew or ever met Pat will remember him for his quick wit and funny stories.
Pat passed away December 31, 2020 at the Iowa Methodist Hospital, in Des Moines, at the age of 83 years due to complications from Covid-19.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lorraine and his wife, Kay in 2014.
Those left to cherish Pat’s memory include his children: Phil and daughter-in-law, Linda Myers; daughters: Susie Myers-Heathman of Pleasantville and Kathy Myers of Englewood, Colorado; 6 grandchildren: Conner Myers, Halle and Lucas Myers, Hannah, William, and Benjamin Heathman; brother, Bill and wife Doris Myers of North Carolina; in-laws, Karen and Terry Evans of Springville, Iowa and many other family members and friends.
A funeral service for Howard “Pat” Myers will be held on Monday, January 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Pleasantville Cemetery. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a larger public Celebration of Pat’s Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pleasantville Athletic Booster Club.
