Oral Edward Van Sickle
June 1, 1948 — December 14, 2021
Oral Edward Van Sickle was born June 1, 1948 in Sac City, Iowa the son of Charles Henry and Jean Lucille (Vrana) Van Sickle.
Oral was raised in Sac City where he graduated high school in 1966. He then attended college in Vermillion, South Dakota and Indianola, Iowa. Oral moved to Knoxville, Iowa in 1969 where he worked for Contel Phone Company. On November 17, 1979 he was united in marriage to Connie Rowley. The couple moved to Woodbury, Minnesota in 1983 when the phone company transferred Oral. In 1992 they were transferred to Flower Mound, Texas where Oral worked until retiring in 2003 from Verizon. In retirement Oral and Connie were gate attendants for Lewisville Lake at the Hickory Creek arm. In 2009 the couple purchased the home where Oral was born and moved to Sac City to care for their parents.
Oral was active in the various communities where he resided. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Knoxville and Sac City; held several offices in the American legion in Texas and was treasurer for the First Baptist Church in Minnesota. In his spare time, Oral played drums in the Good Times Band and the Senders. He also coached pee-wee football.
Oral passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at his home, in Sac City, at the age of 73 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ann Gerdes and wife, Connie Jo Van Sickle.
Those left to honor Oral’s memory include his children: Douglas (Rebecca) Houser, Diana (Alan) Six, Michael (Misty) Houser, Sheila Musira and Bryan Van Sickle; grandchildren: Devin Wilmott, Christian Houser, Gabrielle Houser, Christopher (Allison) Brown, Paige (Trent) Davis, Jennifer Six, Heather Six, Timothy Six, Zachery (Samantha) Houser, Kyle Houser, Blake Houser and Lillian Scruggs; three great-grandchildren; siblings: Pat Wilson and Gene Gerdes and many other family members and friends.
