Norman "Mike" Brandt

Norman Elmer “Mike” Brandt was born September 28, 1934 in Princeton, Iowa the son of Fredrick William and Gladys Marie (Space) Brandt.
He was raised in the Blakesburg and Ellston, Iowa areas. At the age of 18, Mike enlisted in the United States Army. He was a Platoon Sergeant during the Korea war and after the war he was stationed at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. Mike was honorably discharged in 1955. Through the years Mike had worked at John Deere, the Ottumwa Courier, the Ottumwa Post Office and he retired from the Knoxville V.A. in 1996. On May 11, 1993 Mike was united in marriage to Ester Mendoza. Mike was a practical joker and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Mike passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Des Moines V.A. Hospital at the age of 81 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: June, Fredrick, Jr., Gerald, Gordon, Garnet, Norma, Angela, Joyce and Geraldine.
Those left to cherish Mike’s memory include his wife, Ester; children: Norman Brandt, Jr. of Ottumwa, Gregory Brandt of Des Moines and Lisa Schimmelpfennig of Ottumwa; many grandchildren; siblings: Grace of Davenport, Genora of New Virginia and Roger of Alton, Illinois and many other family members and friends.
A funeral service for Norman “Mike” Brandt will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
