Norma Jean Toigo
February 9, 1927 — September 6, 2019
Norma Jean Toigo was born February 9, 1927 in Pershing, Iowa the daughter of Kenneth and Hazel (Allen) Pyle.
She was raised in Pershing and graduated from Attica High School. On August 18, 1945 Norma was united in marriage to John Toigo. The couple made their home in Des Moines, Iowa. Norma worked for Northwestern Bell as a switch board operator before taking a job with the Des Moines Public Schools as a cook. She retired as head cook at East High School at the age of 89.
In her spare time, Norma enjoyed cooking, baking, shopping and flower gardening. Norma’s greatest joy in life was her family and she especially enjoyed the Christmas season and all the preparations before the holiday.
Norma passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019 at the Valley View Village, in Des Moines, at the age of 92 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Kenneth Pyle, Jr.
Those left to cherish Norma’s memory include her husband, John of Des Moines; daughters, Diane (Lee) Doidge and Cindy (John) McLeran both of Waukee; grandchildren: Rod Gill, Angela (Jennifer) Ward-McLeran and John “J.R.” McLeran (Jen); great-grandchildren: Chase Gill, Ashlee Gill, John McLeran IV, Ben Ward-McLeran, Lennon Ward McLeran and Jaley McLeran and many other family members and friends.
A Funeral Service for Norma Toigo of Des Moines, will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home, in Knoxville, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Valley View Village Staff Appreciation Fund.
