Norma Lea (DeWeese) Sparks was born on May 26, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa to Isaac and Gusta (Osborne) DeWeese. Norma was the ninth of ten children born to this union. She was raised in the Ottumwa and Oskaloosa area during her childhood. Norma met Jerry Lee Sparks and the two fell in love. On July 29, 1955 the two were married in Knoxville, Iowa.
Norma and Jerry raised their six children, Rosa Lea “Rosie”, Charles LeRoy “Charlie” (wife Brenda), Terry Dean (wife Stephanie), Michael Dwayne (wife Karin), Randy Wayne, and Rhonda Lynn in the Knoxville area where they remained for the 63 years of their marriage.
Norma lived her life serving God and doing his work, serving her family preparing many large meals serving chicken and noodles as well as baking pies pouring her love into each and everything that she did.
Norma passed away Wed. Dec. 26 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 79 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Isaac DeWeese, mother Gusta Cleo (Gussie) Osborne, Siblings, Sarah, Dorothy, John, Robert, Opal, Lola and Veda.
Those left to honor Norma’s memory include: her husband Jerry, children, Rosa Lea “Rosie”, Charles LeRoy “Charlie” (wife Brenda), Terry Dean (wife Stephanie), Michael Dwayne (wife Karin), Randy Wayne, and Rhonda Lynn, 15 grandchildren, 56 greatgrandchildren, 1 grand kitty, Maggie Moo, siblings, Norman DeWeese and Karen Poe and many other family members and friends.
A Funeral Service for Norma Sparks, age 79 of Knoxville, will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the Apostolic Church at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Ridlen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Apostolic Church Mothers Memorial.
