V. Neulyn Miller was born June 22, 1942 in Aplington, Iowa the son of Ervin and Adelyn (Frericks) Miller.
He was raised in the Ackley, Iowa area and following high school, Neulyn attended and graduated from Ellsworth Junior College and Westmar College. He received a B.A. in Education. On June 14, 1964 Neulyn was united in marriage to Linda K. Greenfield at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Ackley, Iowa. Neulyn taught Physical Education and coached in Dunlap and Plainfield before he and Linda moved to Pleasantville in 1968. Neulyn taught PE for the Pleasantville School District for several years before taking a job with Sherwin-Williams as a paint and carpet salesman. He continued to coach Pleasantville athletics for years. He retired from Sherwin Williams in 2004.
Neulyn took an active role in Pleasantville; he helped establish the Pleasantville E.MS., was instrumental in building the current little league complex, the high school softball and baseball fields and the first weight room. He also served on the Marion County Zoning Board and was an active member of the Motor Friends Church. His greatest joy was his family, he especially cherished the role of Grandpa.
Neulyn passed away on Friday, May 22, 2015 at his home at the age of 71 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to cherish Neulyn’s memory include his wife, Linda; daughters: Becky (Mike) Oliva and their children: Bailey and Hunter of Pleasantville; Sherry Miller of Pleasantville and Amy (Gary) Wood and their children: Maddy, Ty, Tully, and Stoney of Corydon, Iowa; brother, Dawson Miller of Dallas, Texas and many other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Neulyn Miller, age 71 of Pleasantville, will be held on Thursday, May 28 at the Motor Friends Church at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mason Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Pleasantville High School Softball Building Project.
