Nancy Jane Parker
January 26, 1942 — April 30, 2019
Nancy Jane Parker was born January 26, 1942 in Winterset, Iowa the daughter of Russell Eugene Purcell and Madeline (Cappellin) Purcell.
Nancy was raised in Missouri and Des Moines before moving to Bussey her freshman year of high school. During high school, she was active in basketball, softball and track. Nancy was homecoming queen her senior year and graduated in 1959. On June 23, 1961 she was united in marriage to Tom Parker at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple have always made their home in the Bussey area. In earlier years, Nancy worked at the Bell Telephone in Des Moines and later at the Pella and Albia overall factories.
Nancy enjoyed watching hummingbirds and wrens. She also liked old western shows and attending rummage sales and flea markets. The most important thing in Nancy’s life was her family and she especially enjoyed family dinners and get-togethers.
Nancy passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 77 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Jim and Clyde.
Those left to cherish Nancy’s memory include her husband, Tom; children: Sandi (Mark) Williams, Jayme (Scott) Overmyer and Brad (Shawna) Parker; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way; sister, Paulette Olson and many other family members and friends.
A funeral service for Nancy Parker, age 77 of Bussey, will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Bussey United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery in Bussey. Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
