Mitchell Pearson was born May 20, 1934 in Chariton, Iowa the son of Pearl Mitchell Pearson and Martha Marie (Cocklin) Pearson. Mitchell was raised on the Pearson Homestead south of Knoxville.
He graduated from Attica Consolidated High School with the Class of 1952. Mitchell worked at Maytag in Newton from 1956 until his retirement on August 8, 1986. He most of his life in the Knoxville area until his health recently declined and he moved to Norwalk and eventually to a care center in Keokuk.
As a young man, Mitchell was inspired by his grandfather, Dr. Young Pearson, a veteran of the Mexican and Civil Wars. His grandfather taught him a love of studying history, which Mitchell continued his entire life. He was an avid fan of Drake Women’s Basketball and attended many games through the years. He was also a staunch supporter of the Republican Party.
Mitchell passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Dave’s Place in Keokuk at the age of 80 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 half-brothers, 5 half-sisters and a step-daughter, Lisa.
Those left to mourn his passing include his daughter, Brenda (Brian) Peterson of Norwalk, two step-daughters: Millisa (David) Wruck of Des Moines and Tracy (Manuel) Gomez of Des Moines; 2 granddaughters: Feleecia Watkins and Stefanie (M.J.) White-Lourens, step-granddaughter, Rachel (Jordan) Heiselman and many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home on Saturday, January 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00a.m. with burial following at the Graceland Cemetery. After the committal there will be a memorial service and lunch at the Park Lane Village (Homestead) from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.

For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 3103 West 13th Street – Davenport, Iowa or to Helping Hands of Knoxville.
