Michael Lee Rieck was born September 22, 1950 in Newton, Iowa the son of Cecil and Dorothy (Finch) Rieck.
He was raised in Bondurant and graduated from Bondurant High School in 1968. On January 15, 1971 Mike was united in marriage to Kathy Kennedy in Knoxville, Iowa. The couple lived in Bondurant until moving to Knoxville in November of 1973. Mike worked for the Knoxville Community School District as a bus driver until retiring on January 1, 2015. He also worked maintenance for the Knoxville Raceway. Mike currently worked for the Iowa DNR, mowing at the Elk Rock State Park.
In his spare time, Mike enjoyed working on his acreage and taking care of his cows. He also liked woodworking and was a jack of all trades. Mike was always fond of a good debate. Mike’s greatest joy in life was his family, especially his granddaughter.
Mike passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at his home at the age of 66 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a special uncle, Richard Rieck and his niece, Deanne Gering and all of his aunts and uncles.
Those left to cherish Mike’s memory include his wife, Kathy; son, Dustin Rieck (Tasha De Heer-Boosalis and her children, Ana and Alekos) and daughter, Michelle Rieck and granddaughter, Madelyne Leigh Rieck all of Knoxville; brother, John (Ann) Rieck of Montrose, South Dakota; nephews: Rob (Michelle) Riggen and Lawrence Kennedy; nieces: Shelly (David) Jacobi, Sue (Jerry) Lehigh, Robyn (Dale) Banks, Jayne Riggen, Kendra (Eric) Huls and their children: Brent, Lane and Zaidee; Karen (Jeff) Hanisch and their children, Kiersten and An (Nick) and many other family members and friends.
A Visitation for Mike Rieck age 66 of Knoxville, will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Knoxville Rural Fire Station (102 West Main Street) from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Mike will be cremated following the visitation. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Mike Rieck Memorial to be designated for the Friends of Elk Rock, Knoxville Rural Fire Department or the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines.
