Maxine Joyce Prichard Profile Photo
Maxine Joyce (Slykhuis) Prichard was the daughter of Martin H. Slykhuis and Agnes (Bensink) Slykhuis. She was born on November 8, 1939 on the family farm near Knoxville, IA. Soon after came four brothers and one sister. She passed from this life on March 23, 2024 at the Comfort House in Pella.

Max graduated from Pella High School in 1957 and held a number of jobs over the years. She worked for County Extension Services in Knoxville and Cedar Rapids; the FBI in Washington, D.C.; and Ready Mix and Martin Marietta in Denver. She retired from the Martin Marietta Urbandale office in 2007.

Max met the love of her life Clyde Prichard Sr, and they were married on January 29, 2005. Maxine gained an instant family upon her marriage to Clyde, including adult children, grandchildren and soon great grandchildren. Max and Clyde were blessed with 19 years. They loved family dearly. They shared a love of the outdoors with numerous vacations over the years. Max was very involved in the lives and activities of her nieces and nephews and grandchildren, remembering a myriad of birthdays and other important dates. It was no secret that “Aunt Max” was a favorite.

Max struggled with health issues for two years before Clyde’s sudden passing on March 4, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, step mother Wilma Slykhuis, brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Jane Slykhuis and nephew Steven Siegel-Slykhuis.

Those left to honor Max’s memory include brothers Bob (Nancy) of Perrysburg, OH; Charlie (Ginny) of Raleigh, IL; Roger (Joyce) of Newton, IA and sister Melody (Mike De Jong) of Urbandale, IA. Also, children Clyde Jr. (Pam) of Knoxville, IA; Vince (Richele) of Pleasant Hill and Amy (Jeff Smith) of Knoxville, IA; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Maxine Willoughby of MO; many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Max’s faith was expressed daily in her selfless nature, loving God and those with whom she was in contact. Her attitude and generosity spoke volumes.
