Max Dean Hall was born September 28, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Arthur Hume Hall and Alice Belle (Emmons) Hall.
He graduated from Greenfield High School with the Class of 1952. Max then enlisted in the United States Navy. He served three years during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. Max then returned to Iowa and attended A.I.B., in Des Moines, earning a degree in business. On February 23, 1958 he was united in marriage to Joan Twigg in Plover, Iowa. The couple lived in Des Moines, Cookeville, Tennessee and Orlando, Florida before moving to Knoxville in 1965. Max and Joan ran the lunch counter at Baker Drug and the Dairy Sweet in Knoxville for several years before opening Hall’s Tax Service. The couple worked side by side in the tax and bookkeeping service until their retirement in 1995.
Max was very active in the Knoxville Community. He served on the Senior Citizens Board of Directors, helped at the Senior Center and delivered Meal on Wheels for over 20 years. He was also a longtime member of the noon Kiwanis and very active in the New Covenant Church. Max was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W and the Am Vets. His spare time was spent attending various “coffee times” and enjoying his family and rooting for the Hawkeyes.
Max passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital at the age of 80 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Arlene Cox and his daughter, Lori Ross.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Joan of Knoxville; children: Richard Hall (Tracey) and Margie Dutler both of Knoxville; 7 grandchildren: Derek Ross, Renee Roso (Andy), Joe Van Roekel, Nick Van Roekel, Brandon Hall, Caleb Hall and Dillon Hall; son-in-law, Paul Ross of Knoxville and many other family members and friends.
