Maude Marie Roff was born August 24, 1930 in Knoxville, Iowa the daughter of Garrett John Onstank and Dorothy Margaret (Clark) Onstank.
Maude graduated from Knoxville High School with the Class of 1948. She worked as a secretary for the Knoxville Veterans Administration Hospital and later at the office of the Red Rock Dam while it was under construction. On December 12, 1958 Maude was united in marriage to Bill Roff at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. She and Bill had two daughters, Diane and Debbie. When the children got older, Maude returned to work as a secretary for Johnston, Hicks & Griffith. She retired from the law firm in 1993.
Maude and Bill raised sheep for 19 years on their acreage east of Knoxville, with the help of their horse, Windy. They enjoyed motorcycle trips and wintering in Texas for 13 years. The couple also spent many Saturday nights dancing. Maude was a big Hawkeye fan and rarely missed watching a football or basketball game. More than anything, Maude cherished her family and will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Maude passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the Pella Regional Health Center at the age of 85 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Virginia Onstank and twin sister, Martha Jenkins.
Those left to honor Maude’s memory include her husband of 57 years, Bill; daughters: Diane Haselhuhn (Dennis) and Debbie (Mike) Crozier; 2 granddaughters: Daphne and Dana and many other family members and friends.
A funeral service for Maude Roff, age 85 of Knoxville, will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to Marion County 4-H.
