Mary Jo Stults
April 4, 1923 — June 27, 2018
Mary Jo Stults was born April 4, 1923 the daughter of Charles and Josephine (Beaslin) Riordan.
Following high school, Mary attended St Joseph College in Missouri, earning her RN degree. On August 26, 1946 Mary was united in marriage to Richard Frankiln Stults in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple made their home in Des Moines until moving to Knoxville, Iowa in 1950. Mary operated the Peter Pan Nursery for 20 years, before working at the Knoxville V.A. Hospital as an RN and Dick operated Stults Knoxville T.V. After Mary’s retirement, she remained active in the Knoxville community and St. Anthony Catholic Church. She started the first Hospice in Knoxville, which would later become part of H.C.I. Care Services. In the last 10 years, Mary has lived with her son, Dick in Tennessee and then with her daughter, Patricia in Des Moines.
Mary passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the Bickford Care C enter in Des Moines at the age of 95 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dick in 1994; brother, Robert Riordan; sister, Margaret Ann Downey and one step-grandchild.
She is survived by her children: Greg (Nancy) Stults, Ken Stults, Richard (Jennifer) Stults, Bill (Barbara) Stults, Debbie (Jeff) Stone, Patti Stults and Bobbi (Rick) West; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great grandchildren; sisters: Teresa Wright and Rosalie Dunham and many other family members and friends.
A Rosary Service for Mary Stults age 95, formerly of Knoxville, will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2926 Beaver Ave, Des Moines, IA 50310, and a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery – Knoxville, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Suncrest Hospice of West Des Moines.
