Mary Belle Day was born July 8, 1927 in Earlham, Iowa the daughter of Glenn and Hazel (Bell) Clague.
She was raised in the Earlham area and her parents moved Mary Belle and her sister Ruth into an apartment in Winterset when they were in the 9th and 8th grades. This allowed the girls to complete their high school education and they would return home on the weekends. Following graduation from Winterset High School, Mary Belle worked as a secretary for a law firm. On September 7, 1947 she was united in marriage to Chuck Day in Winterset. To this union two children, Pam and Brad were born. The couple lived in several locations, as Chuck worked for a grocery chain. In 1957 Mary Belle and Chuck moved to Knoxville. Mary Belle worked at Community National Bank before opening a fabric store in 1973. She operated Fashion Fabrics for 17 years. Never one to sit idle, Mary Belle began another career, working for Home Health Care. She dearly loved caring for and helping people and worked for Home Health Care until retiring at the age of 79.
Mary Belle was a beautiful seamstress and made clothes for her children and grandchildren as well as crafting many quilts. She loved nature, especially birds and mountains. She will be best remembered by a quote from her yearbook, which was true throughout her life, “Everyone loves Mary Belle because Mary Belle loves everyone”.
Mary Belle passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Hawkeye Care Center, in Marshalltown, at the age of 88 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas.
Those left to cherish Mary Belle’s memory include her husband of 68 years, Chuck; daughter, Pam (Kenneth) Vinson of Marshalltown; son, Brad (Holly) of Lillian, Alabama; six grandchildren: Scott Vinson, Brian (Christina) Vinson, Eric Day, Adam Day, Nathan Day and Allison (Justin) James; three great-grandchildren: Grace, Madelyn and Noah; her sister, Ruth Jones of Manchester and many other family members and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Iowa River Hospice of Marshalltown.
