Marvin Darrel Kain was born August 4, 1930 in Swan, Iowa the son of Marion and Clara (Wilson) Kain. He graduated from Swan High School. He liked to joke that he was the Valedictorian of Swan High School and that they closed it down after he left in 1948. Following high school, Marv attended the East Texas State Teachers College. He then served in the United States Air Force for 4 years, stationed in Oahu, Hawaii. Marvin was honorably discharged and returned to Swan. On February 17, 1958 he was united in marriage to Frances (Breezy) Brees. He worked for Dyco in Des Moines before taking a job at Hines-Westberg International Harvester in Knoxville as a bookkeeper for 27 years. He then received his real estate license and later his broker’s license and owned and operated Kain Realty for many years. Marv also owned many rental properties in Knoxville. He actively worked to enhance the Knoxville community and was a former member of morning Kiwanis.
Marv was a man strength and compassion. He loved his family and was always available to guide and advise them with life’s decisions. He never met a stranger and was always happy to visit; whether he was at a child or grandchild’s school event, the coffee group at Hardee’s or halfway across the country. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Marvin passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at the Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 85 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Theresa Denise and his grandson, Caleb Kain McNeill.
