Marvin Eric Estness was born June 18, 1951 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the son of Lloyd and Gladys (Mathe) Estness.
He was raised in Milwaukee and graduated from high school there. As a young man, Marv moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Through the years he has worked for Betts Cadillac and Rowat Cut Stone and Marble Co. In the last twenty years, Marv has worked at Pella Corp before being put on permanent disability. On September 27, 1986 he was united in marriage to Catherine Clark. The couple has made Pleasantville their home since 1989.
In his spare time, Marv enjoyed hunting, collecting knives and watching the wildlife around his home. He loved his home and the country life; in fact he had completely rebuilt and remodeled his and Cathi’s home west of Pleasantville. Marv also enjoyed grilling for the family, spending time with his grandson, Blake and riding the four-wheeler with his grandsons Leyton and Landyn.
He passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at his home at the age of 63 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to mourn Marv’s passing include his wife, Cathi; children: Jill (Brent) Poindexter of New Virginia, Iowa; Scott (Heather) Bethards of Leighton, Iowa and Cari Bethards of Pleasantville, Iowa; 3 grandchildren; siblings: Gwen (Ed) Berg of Waupaca, Wisconsin, Terry (Terry) Estness of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Warren (Linda) Estness of Stoughton, Wisconsin, Caryn (Roger) Landowski of Erie, Colorado and Janet (Bassam) Abu-Douleh of Marion, Illinois and many other family members and friends.
Marv has been cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorials and flowers may be sent to the family home in Pleasantville. Online condolences may be left at
