Mark Peter Lane, 65, of Knoxville, Iowa, born October 10, 1959, passed away on March 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Des Moines, Iowa to Joseph Sr. and Joanne (Gorman) Lane, Mark grew up with a strong sense of family and faith. He graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in 1978 and went on to build a lifelong career in packaging sales. He began at his family’s company, Distinctive Packaging, before continuing with firms across the Midwest. Mark was more than a salesman—he was a trusted advisor, mentor, and friend to hundreds of clients, many of whom he served for decades. His integrity and dedication earned him deep respect in the industry.
In 1988, Mark married the love of his life, Connie. Their marriage was built on laughter, adventure, and a shared love of travel, animals, and time spent with family and friends. Whether exploring new places or simply enjoying each other’s company, their bond was unwavering.
Faith was a guiding force in Mark’s life. He was an active member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Knoxville and a devoted supporter of the Christ Our Life Conference, where he found inspiration and community.
Mark had a deep passion for golf and never had a bad day on the course, regardless of the score. He especially cherished his time in North Port, Florida, at Heron Creek, where he and Connie created a second home filled with memories. Hunting was another of Mark’s great joys, and he treasured the camaraderie and tradition of trips to Riverton, Iowa, and Amoret, Missouri. Many of his best stories were told—and collected—over long hours in duck blinds and post-hunt gatherings.
Above all, Mark was a true friend to everyone he met. He had an incredible ability to connect with people, always more interested in learning about others than talking about himself. His curiosity, kindness, and generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He had a gift for seeing the best in people and took joy in helping others achieve their goals.
Mark’s legacy of love, friendship, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Mark is survived by his wife Connie Lane, children: Shelly (Richard) Randle, Ann (Tom) Kingery, and Katie (Trevor) Minard; his father Joseph Sr. (Marilyn) Lane and mother Joanne Lane; siblings: Joseph Lane Jr, Kathy (David) Adamson, Tim (Cindy) Lane, Ted Lane Sr, Michael (Lisa) Lane and Hunter (Bridget) Lane.
