Marie Rees was born January 25, 1937, near Knoxville, Iowa the first child of Wilmer and Erma (Slocum) Rowley.
She graduated from Bussey High School, where she played basketball. Marie loved basketball and she played in the 1955 Girl’s State Tournament. On November 4, 1956 she was united in marriage to Robert Rees at the Community of Christ Church in Knoxville. The couple were blessed with two sons, Rusty and Brad and a daughter, Deanne. Marie was a devoted mother and housewife while the kids were growing up. She believed that her place was to be at home with the kids after school. She spent her time with the children when she and Robert farmed with Marie’s folks and brother, and while living in Eldora for 10 years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening and cooking. Marie and Robert have lived in Ida Grove for the last 47 years. In Ida Grove, she worked for J.C. Penney, a fabric store and was a cook at Ida Grove Schools for 10 years prior to her retirement.
Marie passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Morningside Health Care Center, in Ida Grove, at the age of 81 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Those left to cherish Marie’s memory include her husband, Robert of Ida Grove; children: Rusty (Kelly) Rees of Ida Grove, Brad Rees (fiancé Tammy Helvick) of Bondurant and Deanne (Daren) Larison of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren: Bryan (Haleigh) Rees, Isaiah (Hannah) Corbin, Kristina (Alex) Stittsworth and Austin Larison; great-grandchildren: Tesa, Harrison and Lucy Corbin, Joshua and Morgan Stittsworth; siblings: Richard (Janice) Rowley, Sandra (Norman) Lubberton and Barbara (Dave) Harrison and many other family members and friends.
A Funeral service for Marie Rees, age 81 of Ida Grove, will be held Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Community of Christ Church in Knoxville, Iowa at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later date.
