Margaret Ann Cooney was born December 8, 1927 in Pleasantville, Iowa the daughter of Gail and Mary (Seifert) Forst.
On May 6, 1946 she was united in marriage to Cleo James Cooney. To this union five children were born: Sandra, Kathie, Molly, Jeannie and Gary. The couple always made Knoxville their home. When her children were older, Margaret attended beauty school in Des Moines. She then owned and operated her own beauty shop for over 30 years.
In retirement, Margaret and Cleo enjoyed traveling and wintering in Arizona. She enjoyed making ceramics and other crafts. She also made her own flowers for Memorial Day. Margaret’s greatest joy was her family and she cherished the time they spent together.
Margaret passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital, surrounded by her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jeannie; husband Cleo, grandson, Christopher Sandmeier and siblings: Jack Forst, Joella Davis, Geraldine Nichols and Peg Matire.
Those left to cherish Margaret’s memory include her children: Sandy (Reid) Scott, Kathie (Steve) Huff, Molly (Kenny) Link and Gary (Jean) Cooney; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Caskey; dear friend, Norman Fredricks and many other family members and friends
A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret Cooney age 87 of Knoxville will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin after 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Margaret will be cremated following the Mass and burial will be in Graceland Cemetery on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to H.C.I.
