Marcia Lee Betterton was born July 23, 1938 in Knoxville, Iowa the daughter of Nick and Ruby (Burt) Ver Steeg.
She was raised in Knoxville and graduated with the Class of 1956. Following high school, Marcia worked for two years in the ASCS Office in Knoxville. On February 15, 1957 she was united in marriage to Joe Betterton in Ottumwa, Iowa. The couple has always made Knoxville their home. Marcia was very active helping to mentor young people both as a Girl Scout leader and as a 4H leader. She enjoyed sewing, flower and vegetable gardening and always canned the vegetable harvest. Marcia was known for her cooking and baking abilities, especially her famous pies. Above all, Marcia was very generous and giving of herself and her time, whether it was helping someone, teaching life lessons to next generation or remembering someone at a special time of year. She will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Marcia passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016 at the Knoxville Hospital & Clinics at the age of 77 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Those left to cherish Marcia’s memory include her husband, Joe; children: Cathy Courtney, Lori (David) Morgan and Joel (Janet) Betterton; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings: Beverly (Dick) Michael and Alan (Joan) Ver Steeg; in-laws: Sara Hopkins, John (Pat) Betterton and Glennadean Betterton and many other family members and friends.
