Mable Winnifred Cade was born October 24, 1919 in Regina Saskatchewan, Canada the daughter of Henry and Winnifred Elizabeth (Botly) Mayers.
Growing up, Mable’s parents farmed and moved between the United States and Canada. After the death of her mother, Mable stayed on the family farm in Columbia, Iowa and raised her two younger brothers. On June 26, 1944 she was united in marriage to Floyd Eugene Cade. The couple would eventually farm 300 acres near Liberty Center, Iowa. After they sold the farm, Mable and Floyd moved to Knoxville. Following Floyd’s death in 1973 Mable became a nurse’s aid and worked at the Collins Hospital and eventually for Knoxville Hospital & Clinics. She retired in 1984.
Mable loved to stay busy whether she was tending to her garden, taking care of her home or quilting. She also enjoyed canning, cooking and baking, especially peach pie and cookies. She will be remembered as an honest and fiercely independent person.
Mable passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at her home at the age of 99 years.
In addition to her parents, Mable was preceded in death by her husband Floyd and her brothers, Harold (Jean) Mayers and Henry “Bud” (Geana) Mayers.
Those left to mourn Mable’s passing include her nephew, Michael (Doris) Mayers of Sarasota, Florida; niece, Diana (Tom) Laura of Ruskin, Florida; sister-in-law, Trudy Mayers of Sulfur Springs, Texas; dear friend, Gloria Beard of Knoxville and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.




A funeral service for Mable Cade, age 99 of Knoxville, will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Gullion Cemetery in Attica. Memorials may be made to the Bessie Spaur Butterfly Garden.
