Lucille Margaret Pitt Profile Photo
Lucille Margaret Pitt, daughter of Peter and Priscilla (Conrad) Miller, was born on October 29, 1922 in Milo, Iowa.
Lucille was raised in the Lacona, Iowa area, where she attended school. She had several jobs in the Des Moines area, until she went to work for the Iowa Sewing Factory, sewing army tents where she met her future husband, Howard. Lucille was united in marriage to Howard Pitt on November 24, 1945 in Rosemount, Iowa. The couple moved to California in 1945, where Howard served in the U.S. Navy. After Howard was discharged from the Navy in 1947, they returned to Knoxville, Iowa where they raised their four children. Lucille was an active member of the St. Anthony Church, a Brownie/Girl Scout Leader, and a seamstress hemming slacks for the canteen at the V.A. Hospital. After her four children were raised, Lucille worked for twelve years as a dining room hostess for the Knoxville Junior High. Because she had a reputation for not letting the students get away with anything, she earned the nickname “Sarge.” Throughout her life, her students and colleagues continued to lovingly refer to her by that nickname.
On Saturday, June 19, 2021, Lucille passed away at the age of 98 at the West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center.
In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; four sisters, Ruth, Rosella, Ivola, and Donna; and four brothers, Raymond, Arnold, Marvin, and Leonard.
Those left to cherish Lucille’s memory include her children, Kathy (John) Hess, Patty Miller, Carolyn (Bill) Hatch and Dennis (Pam) Pitt; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
