Loma Bomell Mateer was born March 15, 1929 in Brighton, Iowa, the daughter of Jerry and Wanda (Cade) Phillips.
Bomell was a 1946 graduate of Tracy High School. She served as Deputy Recorder of Marion County from 1960 – 1974. Bomell was a supervisor at 3M from 1974 until her retirement in January 1998. After retirement she served as Financial Secretary at the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Rachel Circle, Daughters of the American Revolution and Sigma Phi Sorority.
Bomell enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and being able to play with her great grandchildren. They meant the world to her and she would do just about anything for them. Her dogs, Victor and Roxie were a big part of her life too. They brought her so much enjoyment and company over the years. She also loved her some Frank Sinatra music and dancing in her early years. She enjoyed potting flowers in her backyard every spring. The Pizza Ranch was a favorite, and any excuse to go Bomell was there. Another favorite treat you can't forget was her snickers candy bars.
Bomell passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Brio assisted living, in Johnston, Iowa, at the age of 92 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, son, Ron; sisters: Hazel Jones, Bonnie Jones and Norma Simmons; brothers-in-laws: Levi Jones and Robert Jones; nephew, Kevin Montgomery and niece, Connie Lambert.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Dwight Mateer III; grandchildren: Michael (Judy) Mateer and Molly (Drew) Uhlman; great grandchildren: Ava Uhlman, Blake Gazzo, Andrew Uhlman and Codie Ann Uhlman and many other dear family members and friends.


A memorial service for Loma Bomell Mateer, age 92 of Knoxville, will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Marion County Humane Society.
